Authorities said that an elderly woman died after a suspect stole the car she was riding in and crashed it into a building in Washington, D.C.
According to authorities, the carjacking occurred at Washington Hospital Center on Monday afternoon. The elderly victim sat in the front passenger seat of the vehicle. According to authorities, the suspect stole the vehicle after the driver exited it upon arrival at the hospital. According to authorities, the driver reported the vehicle as stolen, with their elderly parent still inside.
A short time later, an officer on patrol saw the vehicle collide with a building at Sixth and D streets, near the D.C. U.S. Attorney’s Office downtown, authorities said. Police apprehended and arrested the female suspect who attempted to flee the scene.
Officials discovered the elderly victim unresponsive and took him from the scene in critical condition, but later confirmed his death.
The police established that the original carjacking used the crashed vehicle.
The police say they are discussing charges with the US Attorney’s Office.
The incident is still under investigation.
