Accusations of Donald Trump’s disregard for the well-being of his rally attendees are not new. Recently, he further stoked these allegations on Sunday.
While the scorching heat of around 103 degrees Fahrenheit baked Las Vegas, Nevada, the ex-president made his way to the city for a summertime rally. Thousands of his fans eagerly gathered at the Sunset Park to catch a glimpse of him, as he hosted an outdoor rally in the blazing heat.
During the rally, he made a few comments about the scorching heat and joked with his supporters that his campaign had advised them not to attend. He then boasted about the fact that despite the warning, a crowd of “only 20,000” still showed up.
During a light-hearted moment, Trump made a comment that he was solely concerned about the votes of his fans and not the individuals who supported him.
He stated firmly, “We require every voter, so I don’t want anyone turning against me. Your vote is what matters, and that’s all I’m concerned about. I’m not interested in anything else.”
Amidst the laughter of his supporters, Trump continued by expressing his concern that the reporters present at the rally would twist his words and present a distorted version of his message to the audience. The former president was worried that his statement would be perceived as “horrible” due to the media’s tendency to take his words out of context.
As the rally progressed, the ex-president couldn’t help but express his discomfort with the scorching heat, despite his usual lighthearted banter.
Trump exclaimed that even though the temperature was 110 degrees, it still didn’t feel like it to him. He was sweating profusely and felt the heat like a dog. According to him, nobody seemed to care about his discomfort and he emphasized how taxing this work was.
It’s doubtful that the temperature reached 110 degrees during Trump’s rally on Sunday, despite the fact that the city had experienced similar temperatures just a few days prior. During his speech, the former president kept to his signature style, donning a heavy coat and tie, which may have contributed to the brevity of his remarks, clocking in at under an hour. Following the event, local media outlets reported that nearly 20 attendees required medical attention due to heat-related issues, with six being transported to the hospital.
In a statement following the rally, Climate Power, a stratcom company that supports Democrats’ messaging on environmental and climate issues, criticized the former president.
According to Alex Glass, the communication director, Donald Trump is not shying away from openly admitting that he is only interested in his own personal gain. He is making pledges to executives from the Big Oil industry who are exacerbating the climate crisis, while individuals are fainting at his rallies due to the actual, hazardous heatwaves that he claims are a hoax.
During his speech, Trump directed a significant portion of his rhetoric towards America’s immigrant population. He characterized incoming immigrants and asylum-seekers as criminals and mentally unstable, labeling them as “not productive” members of society. Trump expressed disdain towards his opponent’s executive order aimed at addressing border security, calling it “bulls***” and asserting that it would actually lead to an increase in illegal immigration, though he did not provide any explanation for his claim.
During his recent campaign rally, things went much smoother for the former president compared to his last appearance at the Libertarian Party’s national convention in Washington DC. Back in late May, he was met with jeers and boos from delegates during his speech, leaving him taken aback by the negative reception.
According to recent polls, Trump is currently ahead of President Joe Biden in Nevada, the same state where he emerged victorious in the previous election.
