On Tuesday, a jury convicted Hunter Biden, the son of President Joe Biden, of charges related to buying a firearm while using and being addicted to illegal drugs. The verdict was announced on June 11.

He has been charged with three felonies which are: making false statements when purchasing a firearm, providing false information that should be kept in records, and having possession of a firearm as an unlawful user of a controlled substance.

After only three hours of deliberation, the jury reached a verdict on Tuesday following brief instructions earlier in the morning. Although a hung jury was a possibility, this was not the case in this instance.

Hunter Biden, who is 54 years old, could potentially face a maximum of 25 years in prison and be fined up to $750,000. Despite this, since he has no history of violent crimes and is a first-time offender, there is a chance that his sentence could be less severe and may not involve imprisonment.

Late on Monday afternoon, the 12 jurors – consisting of six men and six women – were dismissed for the day after deliberations began in the case. The allegations against President Joe Biden’s son involve lying on a federal background form about drug addiction in order to purchase a handgun back in 2018.

On Tuesday morning, as the jury deliberated, only Hunter Biden’s second wife, Melissa Cohen Biden, was present in attendance. This was unlike the previous six days of the trial, where only a few Biden family members and friends were seen. However, the first lady, Jill Biden, Hunter Biden’s stepmother, arrived at the courthouse after the verdict had been delivered.

Amid speculation that he might take the stand throughout the hearings, Hunter Biden did not testify in the trial.

On the sixth day of the trial at J. Caleb Boggs Federal Building in Wilmington, Del., the defense team rested their case. The courtroom was filled with Biden family and friends who came to show their support for the accused.

On Monday, Defense Attorney Abbe Lowell contended that during the time when Biden completed the federal form, he did not consider himself an addict. Furthermore, he emphasized that the federal government has not provided sufficient evidence to prove that Hunter Biden intentionally violated the law.

In 2023, a study revealed the harsh truth of how addiction to alcohol or drugs has affected the lives of millions of Americans. Moreover, this addiction has not only affected individuals but also their loved ones, causing a ripple effect on their daily lives.

On Friday morning, the federal prosecutors concluded their case with an emotional testimony from Naomi Biden, the daughter of Hunter Biden. She was called to the stand to provide answers regarding her father’s past drug addiction.

During his closing arguments, prosecutor Derek Hines emphasized the fact that every choice has consequences. He pointed out that the reason they were all in the courtroom was not simply because Hunter Biden had smoked crack, but because of the repercussions of his actions.
