Goldie Hawn dotes on all her children without any preference, but her daughter Kate Hudson begs to differ.
During an episode of Kelly Ripa’s “Let’s Talk Off Camera” podcast on Wednesday, June 12th, Goldie Hawn, 78, revealed that her daughter Katie believes Oliver is her favorite child. Hawn tried to explain to her daughter that no one is her favorite and that each of her children is unique in their own way. However, Hawn also admitted that having a firstborn child is an unforgettable and fascinating experience, especially because it’s the first time you become a parent without any prior experience.
In her words, “You have only got one chance until you decide to go for the second one, and that’s exactly what occurred.”
Goldie Hawn is a mother to Kate, 45, and Oliver Hudson, 47, from her previous marriage with Bill Hudson. She also has a son, Wyatt Russell, 37, from her current partner Kurt Russell. Kurt, who is 73 years old, has another son named Boston Russell with his ex-wife Season Hubley.
During Hawn’s pregnancy with Kate, she had concerns about how the family dynamic would change.
On Wednesday, Hawn shared her thoughts on the challenge of loving a second child as much as the first. She reflected, “I thought, ‘How am I ever gonna love another child the way I love my firstborn?'”. However, her answer came with the birth of Katie, as she realized that there is an abundance of love in the heart that cannot be measured. Hawn believes that one can love many things and many children, as love knows no bounds.
According to Hawn, Kate should be able to empathize with her as she also shares a unique connection with her eldest son, Ryder. In fact, Kate’s relationship with her 20-year-old child served as the inspiration behind the song “Live Forever,” which is featured on her newly released first album.
During an appearance on CBS Sunday Mornings, Kate shared that her first child, Ryder, leaving for college inspired her to write her latest album. She revealed that her son’s departure made her realize that she had an incredible partner throughout her adult life, and now she had to say goodbye. Kate considers the love she has for her son as the strongest she has ever had, and all of those emotions are reflected in her music. She shares Ryder with her ex-husband Chris Robinson, and the experience of seeing her child leave for college is something that she says has really impacted her and inspired her songwriting.
Kate and Oliver Hudson, who are siblings, have openly talked about their childhood and growing up in a blended family. They have shared stories about their parents, Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson, and their stepfather, Kurt Russell. In several interviews, they have discussed how their family was always supportive of each other and how they all maintained a close relationship despite their parents’ divorce. Kate and Oliver have also spoken about their bond as siblings and how they have grown even closer over the years. Their candidness about their family has earned them admiration from fans who appreciate their honesty and openness.
Kate has a son named Bingham, who is 13 years old, from her previous relationship with Matt Bellamy. Additionally, she has a daughter named Rani Rose, who is 5 years old, with her fiancรฉ Danny Fujikawa. Both Kate and her brother Oliver live close to their parents, Hawn and Kurt, along with their respective families.
During a recent podcast episode, Hawn revealed that she has her granddaughter Katie and grandson Oliver living down the street from her, along with her son Boston. Additionally, Hawn mentioned that her other son, Wyatt, is currently in Atlanta making a movie and has taken his children with him. Hawn expressed her excitement to see her grandchildren soon, stating that she cannot be without them. She also shared that her family has a rule that if one of them moves, they all have to move.
